The search at Bragan Bog in Co Monaghan for the remains of Columba McVeigh is expected to continue for a number of weeks.

A dig began yesterday for the remains of 19-year-old Columba who was murdered by the IRA and buried in a secret location in 1975.

Yesterday the Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, said her thoughts were with the family while actor James Nesbitt assisted Columba’s brother Oliver at the site.

The Minister for Justice has appealed to those with information on the 'Disappeared' to provide it to the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains.

She said her thoughts were with the McVeigh family and she remains hopeful of a successful outcome.

Mr McVeigh told Northern Sound that it was his mother’s dying wish that he would find his brother’s remains and bury them alongside her.
