Mary Lou McDonald said the priority is to work with the new DUP leader.

The Sinn Fein president says her party "will be prepared" if a snap election is called in Northern Ireland.

Mary Lou McDonald was speaking as the DUP worked to elect its second leader in a month, after Edwin Poots was forced to resign for not objecting to the implementation of the Irish Language Act.

Jeffrey Donaldson has become the new leader of the DUP, as nobody opposed his nomination.

Deputy McDonald says that beyond the political issues of this week or month, her party believes now is the time to be having open dialogue about the potential of a United Ireland.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Mary Lou McDonald said they'll work with new DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson, but didn't rule out the potential collapse of the executive.
