SIPTU has called on management for an exact date on when the Tara Mines will re-open. The union says the company has committed to respond on this request by next Tuesday after talks between both sides yesterday.
A Workplace Relations Commission agreement that covers temporary lay-offs at the mines has been extended until January 31s, it includes a €65 retainer to all workers on temporary lay-off along with the extension to the premium payment of health insurance.
SIPTU Sector Organiser, John Regan says that's now been extended; "At least we have secured the allowances and the application of the WRC agreement that we agreed on previously before the closure and layoffs."
