A south Armagh councillor has expressed his dismay after the Irish language element of a Newtownhamilton street sign was vandalised for the second time in as many weeks.

Local councillor Barra Ó Muirí says the sign was "defaced again at the weekend by idiots who have painted over the Irish writing".

The incident happened to a "Welcome to the District" sign on the Keady Road area of Newtownhamilton.

He added that "someone wishes to make a point but they don't realise the entire community is disgusted by their actions" and that the "Irish language harms no-one and should not be feared".

Councillor Ó Muirí says he will "once again report the incident as a hate crime to the PSNI and request that the sign is cleaned again".
