A special school for children with complex learning needs opened in Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan today.
Senator Robbie Gallagher said that the campaign has been going on for a long time, but that it is a positive news story.
The school is an interim facility, with plans in place to seek a site within Monaghan that could accommodate a new build.
The Senator wished all the children and staff who are attending the school the very best, and thanked the families who have campaigned for the facility.
Senator Gallagher said that there will never be enough facilities for children with complex learning needs.
He said: "It's great to see, I'm delighted the facility is open. It's a campaign that has been going on for a long time, too long for many families. But for the families who have children attending today, it's a positive news story. I wish them, the children, and the families, every success. The staff of the school as well, I wish them well.
"This is an interim facility. The plan is to seek a site somewhere in the county that could accommodate a new build, that will cater for all the needs of all the children with special needs in Co. Monaghan, who wish to attend the school," Senator Gallagher added.
