Staffing at both Cavan and Monaghan hospitals have increased by 30% in the past 5 years.
That’s according to Minister of Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill who says there is now over 3,000 people working across both hospitals.
She says the Government is committed to Cavan and Monaghan hospitals and to the people of the region.
The sod was turned on a new €100m five-storey extension at Cavan General Hospital yesterday evening by the minister.
The major project is being described as a milestone in the development of acute hospital services for people in Cavan, Monaghan and the North East.
Minister Carroll MacNeill says while there has been major investments at the hospitals in recent years more will be made going forward.
