Suicide Crisis Assessment Nurse could be introduced in Cavan and Monaghan

A Suicide Crisis Assessment Nurse could be introduced to Cavan and Monaghan.

Minister of State for Mental Health Mary Butler says she's contacted the Department of Health to see if the local region could be included a planned roll-out of improved mental health services.

A SCAN Nurse is a rapid access mental health nurse who works alongside a GP to give an assessment of at-risk people, and assist in onward referral.

There have been calls for more mental health supports in Cavan and Monaghan in recent weeks, after an increase in suicides - particularly among younger age groups.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Minister Mary Butler said she wants to expand on the initial trial of SCAN services.
