'Putin can't win with our army; our army is holding the ground'

250-thousand people have fled the port city of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine, which is being heavily shelled by Russian forces.

However, Ukrainian MP Alex Goncharenko believes Putin's strategy isn't working.

"Putin can't win with our army; our army is holding the ground," he added.

"So, he has started to fight with unarmed people - pregnant women and children - and that is genocide."

Russian state media says an internal investigation has begun after an anti-war protester interrupted a news programme with a sign criticising the war in Ukraine.

A woman - who worked for Channel One - held up a sign saying "Stop the war. Don't believe propaganda. They are lying to you here."

The programme then cut away.

Meanwhile, talks between the two sides will continue later - after Ukraine's president described yesterday's discussions as 'pretty good'.

In his TV address, Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed Russian soldiers directly and urged them to stop fighting.
