Tributes paid to Roscommon drowning victims

The alarm was raised yesterday evening after a man was seen getting into difficulty in the water.

One of the victims of a double drowning incident in Co Kerry will be remembered for his community work, according to a local councillor in his native Roscommon.

50 year old Dessie Byrne and his 62 year old sister, Muriel Eriksson, had just begun their holidays in North Kerry, with Muriel visiting form Sweden.

Dessie got into difficulty shortly after 6pm yesterday evening at Men’s Beach in Ballybunion and was pronounced dead by emergency services a short time later.
