Two local dogs are in the running to become this year's Nose of Tralee.

The competition is run annually by Petsitters Ireland, and there is a pet picked to represent each county, with the winner chosen by public vote, which gets underway tomorrow.

Winston arrived to Ireland from Romania and needed major surgery on his legs because of an MRSA infection and he is the Cavan finalist.

His owner Patricia Brady describes him as an inspiration, and full of personality.

In Monaghan Bobby is hoping to paw his way to the top and win the title in what his owner says may be his final days.

He is 13 years old and has stage two kidney failure.

His owner Siobhan Cawley told Shannonside Northern Sound that this would be a huge achievement and would be the purrfect memory of their beloved dog:
