Upgrades to the Emergency Department at Cavan General Hospital have been included in the 2021 Capital Plan for the Department of Health.
Financial provision will be made towards the project, which will reconfigure the ED and provide additional resuscitation bays.
18 additional beds will also be provided, alongside the replacement of the Endoscopy Unit.

While local TD Brendan Smith welcomed the financial provision, he acknowledged that construction is some way off.
However, he told Northern Sound that the inclusion of the works in the Capital Plan is a "very important step forward":
