A 25-year-old woman who has been charged with possession of an explosive device in Co Monaghan last week has been further remanded in custody with consent to bail.
Isobella Perrie Sullivan with an address in Abbeylands Park, Clane in Co Kildare appeared before a special sitting of Trim District Court on Friday night in relation to the alleged charge.
She also appeared again this morning via video link at Monaghan District Court.
Gardaí described the bomb as one of the most significant car bombs recovered in the south since the Good Friday Agreement.
The device, containing military-grade explosives, was discovered in a car stopped in Carrickmacross last Wednesday afternoon on the N2 which resulted in the road being closed for hours along with homes being evacuated.
A member of the Garda Special Detective Unit gave evidence of arrest, charge, and caution at the previous court sitting.
He said that Ms Perrie Sullivan was stopped in Carrickmacross on Wednesday, and that the vehicle she was driving was searched.
He said that a device was found in a bag in the back of the car, which contained a timing power unit, a detonator, and what he believed to be Semtex.
Following a contested bail application Ms Perrie Sullivan was granted bail under strict conditions.
Representing Ms Perrie Sullivan, Gavin Booth of Phoenix Law said Ms Perrie Sullivan lived with her father in Co Kildare, and that she is studying to become a barrister.
Judge Raymond Finnegan said he would grant her bail provided she obtains a €15,000
independent surety, surrenders her passport, provides her phone number to gardaí, and signs on daily at Naas Garda Station.
He also ordered that she observe a curfew between 9pm and 7am.
She still has not taken up bail and appeared in front of Judge Raymond Finnegan via video link from the Dochas women’s prison to Monaghan District Court this morning.
The court was told that Gardai are making enquiries in relation to the independent surety element of the bail application that has been put forward.
The accused will appear again at Monaghan District Court on the 7th of August.
Meanwhile, a 44-year-old man who has been charged with possession of explosives in connection with the investigation into the alleged car bomb.
Simon O'Donovan, with an address at Sperrin Road in Drimnagh, has been remanded in custody after his application for bail was refused and he is due to appear before the Special Criminal Court again today.
