The Unite union has warned that up to a fifth of driving instructors in Cavan are to retire, with this expected to have a knock

The Unite union has warned that up to a fifth of driving instructors in
Cavan are to retire, with this expected to have a knock on effect on the
availability of lessons.

The Approved Driving Instructors branch of the union appeared before the
Oireachtas Transport Committee recently to discuss the impact of Covid-19 on
the sector.

The group says there is a need to recruit more instructors and to resume
lessons for essential workers.

Concerns have been raised across the country about a backlog in the system
due to the current public health restrictions.

David Dunne from the ADI branch said people Cavan is likely to be faced with
longer wait times for lessons because of retirements.

He called for something to be done to retain trained instructors:
