World recognition in cookery for Cavan student

Simon Harris says he couldn't be prouder of Team Ireland for their performances against the world's best.

The Taoiseach has congratulated Co Cavan's Alanna Moffit on winning a medal at this year's Worldskills in France.

The Blacklion student was awarded along with four other team mates on Team Ireland with Alanna winning her award for cookery. They secured five Medallions of Excellence across five different categories last night at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon.

Simon Harris says he couldn't be prouder of Team Ireland for their performances against the world's best in Lyon this week. Team Ireland was made up of 17 competitors who this week faced off against more than 1,500 opponents from more than 71 countries and regions around the world, all demonstrating their skills across 62 skills areas.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Alanna said the likes of her family, friends and her former boss, Nevin Maguire have played a major part in her success to date.
