A 12 year old Co Cavan boy is one of four finalists for this year's Irish Red Cross Young Humanitarian of the Year award.
The ceremony takes place this evening in Dublin at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Billy Lord cycled from The Beacon Hospital in Dublin, to Cuan in Cavan, a distance of 123km accompanied by his Dad, to symbolise the journey his Mum made each week for her treatment.
In undertaking this amazing challenge the 12 year raised over €35,500 for Cuan. After his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2023, Billy witnessed first-hand how Cuan Cancer Support Centre provided essential emotional and practical support to his entire family.
Speaking to Northern Sound today, Billy's mother, Stephanie says it is wonderful recognition for the 12 year old on his endeavours to raise funds for the local cancer support centre.
Stephanie also revealed that Billy has been nominated for the Anglo Celt young volunteer of the year award also. She says he very excited over being honoured with being shortlisted for tonight's national award.
