It is widely recognised that sharing the personal narrative and lived experience of recovery from adverse events in life offers hope and inspiration to those who may be going through something similar. It has been shown to promote help seeking behaviour and encourage people to reach out for support when needed.

In this episode, Miffy Hoad, Development Officer with Mental Health Ireland for the Cavan Monaghan area, is talking to Martin McGuire and Peter Cavanagh.

Martin talks about his journey with a cancer diagnosis and the support available through Crocus Men’s Den Cancer Support. He also talks about the benefits men can get from mutual support.

Peter is the regional rep for the Men’s Sheds and speaks about the benefits for men who may be experiencing isolation or just would like a social outlet. He also talks about where the Men’s Shed idea came from and how to get involved.

Listening to the stories of how people have overcome adversity and now flourish in their lives can provide hope and inspiration. We hope you will join us in listening to our ‘Stories of Recovery’.

The first episode which was launched on World Suicide Prevention Day, September 10th and the second episode which focused on the WRAP (wellness recovery action planning) programme, launched ahead of World Mental Health Day on October 10th, are both available at  https://audioboom.com/channels/5013394 or wherever you like to listen to podcasts.
