Listen Back: 1000m swim daily in January for local special care baby unit. A Bailieboro native is completing a 1000m swim each day over the month of January.
It's all in aid of the Cavan Hospital Special Care Baby Unit and to raise awareness of the service in the area.
Moreover, Aaron Hynes has been completing a January challenge for the past 8 years; since his little boy Harry was born 10 weeks prematurely.
The Bailieboro school teacher says the nurses and doctors in the Cavan baby unit literally saved his baby's life; as unfortunately his lung had collapsed shortly after his birth.
Since then Aaron has been raising funds for the unit.
Last year he raised €4000 which bought a Jaundice lamp for an incubator and in 2024 the family were able to purchase 12 breast pumps for new mums.
Aaron says the funds raised go directly to the unit which he says is a way for him to give back in some small way for all the great work that the local facility does. Aaron spoke in detail to Ronan Gargan about the 1000m swim daily fundraising event and the unit.
