Cavan student appeals to Government to prioritise special education places. A young student, and educational advocate from Co. Cavan, is urging the Government to prioritise special education places for children.
Emily-McPhillips Sheridan, who hails from the Lavey area. She is studying to be a social care worker in DKIT. Emily told Northern Sound of her own struggle with attaining a suitable educational place. Moreover, parents invited Emily to speak at a demonstration outside Leinster House. Furthermore, the parents are advocating for more on stream special education places. Emily, who is diagnosed with Autism, says she did not receive an appropriate educational place until sixth year. Indeed, Emily struggled with her mental health all the way through school.
She has been speaking to Jack Cunnane about her appeal to the powers that be.
