Cllr Stiofán Conaty on lack of funding for the Irish language. Up on 25,000 people took to the streets of Dublin at the weekend. Indeed, to protest in relation to the Irish language.

People came from all over including Cavan and Monaghan.  Indeed, to call for more supports and funding for our native language.

According to organisers, the protest was a direct result of failure by both northern and southern governments to adequately resolve long standing crises regarding language rights; Gaeltacht housing, education and funding.

The rally began in Parnell Square before making its way through Dublin City Centre and on to Leinster House.

In attendance, local members of Conradh na Gaeilge branches in Cavan and Monaghan demanded Cearta Teanga, Cothram na Féinne and proper funding for the Irish language and Gaeltacht regions.

Cavan Sinn Fein councillor Cllr Stiofán Conaty was in attendance at the weekend and he believes investment in our native language is badly needed.  Listen here on the Wider View:
