Concerns highlighted over new special school in Monaghan. Parents excited for the new special school in Monaghan to open in September, now feel uncertain. This is because some have grave reservations about the site chosen as the location for the new interim school.
In order for the new school to open for the first intake of pupils in September, CMETB has chosen the former Tech building in Castleblayney as an interim school building. But, families have expressed their reservations as the school is on a hill; off a busy main road; and has little outside space for children to take exercise breaks.
Most concerning of all is the fact the school will only have the capacity to accept 18 children aged between 4 and 18 years despite up to 60 children requiring a place. Chairperson of the Special Needs Active Parents support group, Paddy McAloon told Zoe Tunney, he fears this situation will mean disappointment for too many families again.
