Lack of taxi and hackney services in Monaghan Town raised. A local councillor has raised the issue of the lack of taxi and hackney services in Monaghan Town.
Fine Gael Councillor, Alan Johnston, said this is a very important safety issue. Especially for people trying to get home after a night out socialising.
Furthermore, Councillor Johnson the reply received from the office of Minister for Transport, Darragh O'Brien TD was disappointing. This reply was to previous representations made on the issue. Moreover, Councillor Johnston described the contents of the reply as frustrating. Indeed, he said the Department was "passing the buck" by saying this was a matter for the Taxi Regulator.
The other issue, he said, was the night time economy, which depends on taxis operating in the town. Ronan Gargan has been speaking to the local councillor on the issue.
