Local call for transparency around LPT. Nobody actually wants to pay the Local Property Tax (LPT). However, if there was more transparency and accountability around its use, people might find it more bearable.
That's according to Aontu' s Monaghan Rep, Olivia Larkin. Cllr Larkin says - "Unfortunately, it appears that we are stuck with this tax,; so I firmly believe if it absolutely has to be paid, then its' distribution has to be fully transparent'.
As it stands the LPT rate in Monaghan is 15% and Ms Larkin says this is a sizeable chunk of money for people to pay during the worst cost of living crisis we have experienced in this country for a very long time.
Jodie Curran spoke with the local Aontu representative on this issue and why she wanted to bring it to the fore.
