Listen back: Local publican on Guinness price increase. A local publican has criticised the decision by Diageo to increase the price of Guinness by 20c from next month.
Diageo outlined last week that in order to maintain sustainable operations in Ireland; publicans informed there will be an increase to the prices on its draught product range.
Furthermore, the Vintners' Federation of Ireland (VFI) say drink costs are the single biggest cost that all publicans face.
Moreover, it believes this latest increase comes at a time when rising labour costs, high energy prices and ongoing inflation across all areas of the business are already eroding margins.
Also, local Cllr. Raymond Aughey, who owns the Squealing Pig in Monaghan Town, criticised Diageo's decision.
Maitiú Monaghan called into the Raymond this week, and asked him what he makes of the price increases.
