Listen Back: Local students launch 'Wear Again Wednesday' initiative

Secondary school pupils in Oldcastle are launching a 'Wear Again Wednesday' initiative to promote sustainable fashion.

It will see students at St Oliver’s Post Primary School wear second-hand clothes to school for the day instead of their uniform.

Ahead of the launch pupils hosted a swap shop where students could bring in their unwanted clothes in exchange for 'new to them' pieces brought in by their classmates.

The strong over 600 students in the school from October started collecting unwanted clothes.

This year has been the school's biggest year with over 12,000 items with some clothing items still having tags on them.

Conor McMahon is a teacher at the school.

He told Northern Sound that this initiative is now four years in the making at the school and has since became something that the kids "really wanted to take action on" and to de-bunk the stigma around second hand clothes.

Ronan Gargan has been speaking with Conor alongside some of the students involved.
