Monaghan County Council won a national award over the weekend at the 2026 LAMA All Ireland Community & Council Awards.
The local authority won the Local Authority Energy Decarbonisation Award.
The award recognises their Innovation in Road Maintenance project - a low carbon approach using cold mix reclaimed asphalt to strengthen the road network.
The project also cuts carbon emissions, and support Ireland's national climate action goals.
Since 2020, over 20,000 tonnes of reclaimed asphalt have been reused and more than 644 tonnes of CO? have been avoided through this approach.
Monaghan is now leading the way nationally in sustainable road construction, with rehabilitation works delivered across Monaghan, Cavan, Louth and Cork.
