Listen Back: Pop-up shop in Castleblayney set to tackle fast fashion

Pop-up shop in Castleblayney set to tackle fast fashion. Carrickmacross Toy Library is aiming to raise awareness of the environmental damage caused by fast fashion

The local charity has launched a pop-up location at Crafty Coffee in Castleblayney.

Cubs Conscious Kidswear is a new initiative by the Carrickmacross charity to mark second hand September.  This annual campaign encourages people to avoid buying new for the entire month of September.

Moreover, all proceeds raised will go directly to the Toy Library. This will help cover running costs such as rent, insurance and software.

According to Jill Kennon from Carrickmacross Toy Library, keeping toys in circulation for as long as possible is at the heart of what we do and the same principle applies to children's clothing. She said buying pre-loved is becoming increasingly popular as more parents recognise the environmental impact of fast fashion.

The toy library founder and CEO says they want to encourage families to buy less and buy better: to choose quality clothing that lasts, and that can be passed down again and again.

Meanwhile, Áine McDonald, proprietor of Crafty Castleblayney says she is delighted to be able to offer space to Carrickmacross Toy Library for a collaborative community initiative that supports sustainable shopping practices. Ronan Gargan spoke to both Jill and Aine.
