Local TD has expressed alarm at rising rent prices locally. Rising rents in Cavan and Monaghan a serious concern according to a local TD.
Sinn Féin spokesperson on Justice and Cavan Monaghan TD, Matt Carthy, expressed alarm at the continuing rise in rents in Cavan and Monaghan. Cavan rents have risen by 4.1% to an average of €1409 a month. Meanwhile Monaghan rents have risen by 5.6% to €1340 a month in the year to March according to the latest Daft.ie rent report.
He said these increases are putting rental accommodation out of reach for people, particularly young people. That is a key reason why so many of our young people have moved abroad. The fact that rents continue to rise is the direct result of the government's failure to deliver a sufficient amount of social, affordable rental and affordable purchase homes.
Deputy Carthy joined Ronan Gargan on today's Wider View to discuss this issue of rising rent prices.
