Aaron McKenna wins WBC middleweight title

Aaron McKenna landed the WBC middleweight international title with victory over Uisma Lima in York Hall.

McKenna took the title on a unanimous scorecard, 100-91, 98-92, 98-93. The Monaghan man took the biggest win of his career in a tough contest against the Angolan.

“I thought I had him gone a few times, but he just kept coming back” said McKenna afterwards.

‘The Silencer’ was initially hoping to silence the fighter who had called his name the loudest, Shakiel Thompson, on the Boxer card but the English fighter pulled out through injury.
