New York have named All-Ireland hurling winner Jonathan Glynn in their team to face Monaghan.
The sides meet in the Lory Meagher Cup semi-final on Saturday. It is the first year New York have entered the Lory Meagher cup and received a bye to the semi-final stage.
Glynn was on the Galway side which lifted Liam McCarthy in 2017. Indeed, also included in the New York starting XV is Cian Mullane a former Tipperary minor hurler.
Indeed, New York’s entry into the Lory Meagher was announced in 2024. The Yankee’s having won the Connacht Hurling League, beating Mayo in the final.
Speaking to Gaelic Life, Monaghan manager Arthur Hughes slammed the decision to include New York at the semi-final stage of the Lory Meagher Cup.
“It’s an absolute joke” said Hughes. “In my opinion. You don’t know what you’re coming up against, what level they’re at, and it’s completely unfair to just fly a team into the semi-finals”.
“If you’re going to participate in a competition, you should be there from the start.”
Whereas, Cavan await the winner of Monaghan and New York in the final on May 31st.
