Bad first half proves costly as Cavan hurlers lose to Sligo

The breffni men made a losing start to Allianz hurling league division 3A.

Cavan opened their Allianz hurling league division 3A campaign with a 4-19 to 3-18 defeat at the hands of Sligo at Markievicz Park.

The opening stages were evenly contested. The sides traded four points each inside the first eight minutes, Liam O’Brien accounting for half of Cavan’s tally.

Whereas, Sligo dominated the remainder of the first-half, four goals helped the hosts lead 4-13 to 0-10 at the break. Gerard, Tony and Liam O’Kelly Lynch found the net along with Conor Griffin.

Cavan’s Nicholas Kenny scored a goal on 49 minutes, ten minutes later O’Brien added another leaving eight points between them.

Indeed, Kenny registered his second goal 60 seconds into stoppage time but the Breffni men still fell short.
