A gallant display wasn’t enough for Monaghan champions Carrickmacross as Glenuillin progressed after extra-time.
Carrickmacross were set for a place in the Ulster IFC final. However a last gasp point sent the game to extra-time.
Stephen O’Hanlon got Carrickmacross opening score after seven minutes, when they had fallen two points behind.
Donnacha Swinburne got his side’s first goal of the contest after nine minutes, putting Carrickmacross into a two point lead. Niall Loughman and Aaron Lynch added further points as Carrickmacross looked sharper.
A James Maguire point after 28 minutes proved to be his side’s final score of the half, as they took a four point lead to the break.
At half-time Carrickmacross led by four points, 1-6 to five points.
Gary McEnaney and Fionnan Cassidy scored a point each early in the second-half.
Darragh Mee struck his side’s second goal of the afternoon after 37 minutes, putting them into a six point lead.
However, Fionnan Cassidy point after 39 minutes proved to be Carrickmacrosses final score of the second-half. Carrick led by seven points.
Glenullin went on a scoring spree, before grabbing the equalizer four minutes into injury time and sending the game to extra-time.
Points from Fionnan Cassidy and Stephen O’Hanlon first period of extra-time saw the game level. However, it was Glenullen who took one point advantage to the break in extra time.
Aaron Lynch and James McGuire got a score apiece in the second period of extra-time but Glenullen held onto their one point lead to seeing out the result. Glenuillin winning out 2-13 to 1-17.
Glenuillin will face Cuchulainns of Cavan in the Ulster IFC final.
