Carrickmacross claim a first Junior hurling win

The victory over Ballela of Down has seen the Monaghan representatives reach the Ulster semi final

In the Ulster Intermediate Hurling championship, Castleblayney just came up short to Middletown in their quarter final meeting losing out to the Armagh champions by 2-18 to 18 points on Saturday night. It was better news for Carrickmacross as they claimed a first ever provincial win with an extra time 2-23 to 3-16 victory over Ballela of Down in the Junior championship.Two goals from Malachy Magee helped Ballela to a two point lead at the second water break before a strong final quarter saw the Monaghan side force extra time. Goals from Niall Bermingham and Michael Maguire helped Carrickmacross to a four-point victory while Jonathan McCusker scored a late consolation goal for the Down men . Carrickmacross boss Aidan Slevin spoke to Sean Mc Caffrey after the final whistle

Next up for Carrickmacross is a semi-final date with Na Magha from Derry on Sunday December 12th.
