Cavan bow out of hurling league after Sligo defeat

Cavan bowed out of the Allianz hurling league after a five point defeat to Sligo in their semi-final.

Sligo will now face Mayo in the division 3A final next weekend.

Cavan led by a point at half-time, having played with the wind. Thomas Leonard, Nicholas Kenny 0-7 4f, Jack Barry with Cavan’s first-half points.

The hosts used the wind to their advantage after restart, moving 14 to 11 points clear. Cavan scores coming from two Kenny frees.

Jack Brady’s 48^th minute point was Cavan’s last for a seven minute period where Sligo moved into a seven point lead. Another Kenny free and a surprise Thomas Leonard goal put life into the Breffni side.

Cavan trailing by three points, 1-13 to 19 points with eight minutes remaining. However, all the breffni could muster was a Nicholas Kenny free as Sligo won out 0-22 to 1-14.
