Cavan bow out of Ulster under-20 falling well short to Down

Cavan bowed out of the Ulster Under-20 championship after a heavy 14 point defeat to Down in Kingspan Breffni, 2-17 to nine points.

Cavan started well with points from Enda Maguire, Sean McEvoy, Eoin McCaffrey, Eoin Clarke before the eighth minute, the game swung toward Down when Andrew Gilmore scored a ninth minute goal.

Emmet Boylan responded with two points by the 21st minute but Danny Magill added a second Down goal two minutes before half-time as Down led 2-12 to six points at the break.

It took 16 second-half minutes for Cavan to find their first score of the half a point from Sean McEvoy with the contest effectively over at 2-14 to seven points.

Cavan scored two points late on but it was only a consolation as Down won out 2-17 to nine points.
