Cavan’s long wait for a victory over Tyrone goes on, following a 12 point defeat in this afternoons meeting.
The Breffni men have now gone over 40-years since last beating the red hand county.
Cavan started the stronger, Oisin Brady firing over a two-pointer. However, Tiarnan Madden palmed the ball to the Tyrone net after four minutes.
Frank Burns and Darragh Canavan responded for Tyrone, with Peter Corrigan and Gerard Smith replying for Cavan.
Tyrone struck on 17 minutes when Brian Kennedy palmed the ball into the Cavan net. Seanie O’Donnell followed up with a point, giving Tyrone the lead.
After 18 minutes Tyrone led Cavan by one point, 1-5 to 1-4. Eoin McElholm and Dara McVeety traded points for either side moments before Mattie Donnelly palmed the ball to the net, for Tyrone’s second goal of the afternoon.
Tyrone took a four point lead to the break, leading 2-7 to 1-6.
Oisin Brady opened the scoring for the second-half, with a point from play for Cavan. Darragh Canavan responded before Cavan substitute Paddy Lynch introduced himself with the first of his five points.
Dara Canavan, Frank Burns and Con Killpatirck all chipped in with points for Tyrone as they looked to take control of the contest.
Paddy Lynch added points for Cavan, but they proved little more than consolation as he left the field of play with a nose injury.
Dara Canavan fisted over the Cavan bar just as the hooter sounded, sealing a 12 point win.
