A superior second-half display saw Cavan claim victory.

Cavan were crowned Allianz football league division three champions after beating Fermanagh 0-16 to 1-7 at Croke Park.

Cavan were a point down at the break before a superior second-half display saw the Breffni men claim the league title.

The opening stages were lackluster but Cavan’s Gearoid McKiernan eventually broke the deadlock 13 minutes in.

Patrick Lynch subsequently doubled Cavan’s lead before Ryan Lyons eventually got Fermanagh off the mark on 22 minutes.

Ryan O’Neill restored Cavan’s two-point cushion four points later. On 27 minutes, Fermanagh took the lead when Darragh McGurn found the net.

Lynch restored parity eight minutes later before Sean McNally’s pointed free on the stroke of half-time saw Fermanagh lead 1-3 to 0-5.

Smith restored parity two minutes into the second-half. Four minutes later Aidan Breen edged Fermanagh back in front.

Fermanagh failed to score for another 16 minutes and Cavan capitalised by hitting five successive points.

Raymond Galligan registered three points while Oisin Brady and Dara McVeety were also on target as Cavan moved four points clear.

Fermanagh responded with three successive points and suddenly it was back to one-point game on the hour mark.

The Erne men failed to score again thereafter and five unanswered points saw Cavan claim a five-point victory.
