Cavan and Meath drew 0-11 apiece following the proverbial game of two halves in their Allianz football league division two encounter.
Cavan trailed 0-7 to 0-3 at half-time and an improved second-half performance was not enough for the hosts to claim victory at Kingspan Breffni.
Just one point separated the sides on 23 minutes as Meath led 0-3 to 0-2. Paddy Lynch and Cian Madden on target for the Breffni men,
Meath subsequently found another gear. Points from Ronan Jones, Sean Brennan and Daithi McGowan saw the visitors lead 0-6 to 0-2 on 32 minutes.
Cavan’s Paddy Lynch and Meath’s Jack O’Connor traded points during the remainder of the half as the visitors restored their four-point cushion by half-time.
Cavan’s James Smith made it a two-point game 11 minutes into the second half. Three minutes later, Cavan goalkeeper denied Daithi McGowan a goal from point-blank range.
Lynch narrowed the margin to a solitary point on 58 minutes, 60 seconds later Padraig Faulkner landed the equalising score.
Niall Carolan gave Cavan the lead for the first time on 61 minutes. 60 seconds later, his effort was cancelled out by Matthew Costello.
Lynch restored Cavan’s one-point lead two minutes into stoppage time. Sean Brennan restored parity two minutes later.
Ciaran Caulfield almost snatched victory for the visitors right at the death. His last-gasp effort hit the upright.
A winning score proved elusive for both sides as the contest ended in a stalemate.
The result see's Cavan tied on points with Armagh and Donegal. All three sides have seven with Armagh and Donegal playing on Sunday. Meath remain fourth in Allianz League division two.
