Cavan Gaels overcome Killygary in thriller

Cavan advance to quarter-final stage

Cavan Gaels produced a late onslaught to beat Killygary in the Cavan Senior Football Championship in St. Matthews Park.

The win seals a place in the Cavan SFC quarter-final and a meeting Gowna writes Aaron Kelly.

It was an incredibly tight but lively start to the game as Killygary found themselves with a narrow after 10 minutes.

Indeed, Darragh Noonan’s score was quickly responded to by Sexton for Cavan Gaels to keep the scoreboard close.

After a lengthy stoppage, Killygary opened up some daylight for the first time. Oisin Brady knocked over a two-pointer seven minutes shy of the half-time whistle.

Whereas, a Cian Keaney two-pointer pushed Killygary’s lead to four at half-time.

Cavan Gaels came out strong in the second-half, getting the first three scores including a Ben Tully two-pointer to bring them back within one.

Killygary responded in the best way possible with a goal from Thomas Gilsenan six minutes into the second-half. Cavan Gaels got the next three scores however, and found themselves back within a point with eight minutes to play.

Emmanuel Shehu got a pair of scores before Luke Molloy turned the game on its head to give Cavan Gaels the lead again.

Gaels found the back of the net themselves in the closing stages to secure a comfortable win on the scoreboard.

Cavan Gaels scoring a seven point win, 1-21 to 1-14.
