Kerry got the best of Cavan in the All-Ireland minor quarter-final in O’Moore Park.
Kerry raced into an early lead through points from Danny Murphy, Gearoid White and three from Kevin Griffin; including a two-pointer from a free-kick.
Cavan did not get their first score until the mid-way point of the first-half; Jay Graham raised the white flag for the first time in the afternoon.
A fine Ben Kelliher point for Kerry was responded to by a late first-half flurry from Cavan. The Breffni side recording the next four scores, including a two-pointer from Graham.
Kerry started the second-half much the same as they started the first, converting the first four points of the second-half, with Kelliher helping himself to three of them.
12 minutes into the second-half and Cavan got their lifeline, as Matthew Duffy found the back of the net to get Ed O’Hanlon’s side back within touching distance.
However, Kerry remained unfazed. The kingdom kept their side of the scoreboard ticking over thanks to Kelliher, Tadhg O’Connell and Padraig O’Mannion.
Indeed, Cavan just would not go away as they notched up the next four points. Gary McCabe, Cian McConnell and Nathan Quigley getting themselves amongst the scores.
With just a point between them and the clock ticking towards its conclusion, Kerry landed the insurance point on the counter from Liam O’Brien, sealing a place in the semi-finals and end Cavan’s hopes of championship glory.
Kerry winning out 14 points to 1-9.
