Ulster are the first province to get their competition underway on April 16th

With the completion of the National football leagues last weekend the attention is now turning to the championship and the commencement of the provincial competitions. Ulster will be one of the first to get the championship up and going when Tyrone being the defence of their Ulster and All Ireland titles with a visit to Brewster Park on the 16th of April to face Fermanagh. The winners of that one will take on Derry in the Quarter final. Monaghan who retained their Division 1 status with a last day win over Dublin a result that relegated Dessie Farrells side to Division 2 take on Down on the 30th of April. Before that on the 23rd of this month, Cavan make the trip to Corrigan Park to take on Antrim in the first of the quarter finals. The Breffni side will be buoyed by their league success at the weekend with claiming the Division 4 title and speaking on Sports beat last night, sports editor with the Anglo Celt Paul Fitzpatrick noted that getting a competitive game in Croke Park as well as a number of good individual performances is good preparation for the championship

Prior to that outing for the Cavan senior team their U20 side will be in semi final action this Friday night when they take on Derry in the Athletic grounds at 8pm. The other semi final will see Tyrone and Donegal meeting at the same time in Celtic Park.
