Cootehill hurlers claim maiden Ulster hurling championship victory

Cootehill claimed a two-point victory in the end.

The Cootehill hurlers claimed a first ever Ulster championship victory beating Killeavy 1-9 to 1-7 at Kingspan Breffni.

Cootehill Celtic led 1-5 to 1-4 at half-time, in their Ulster junior round one meeting. Rian Delaney with Cootehill’s goal on 20 minutes.

Whereas, Cootehill began the second half with urgency. Meanwhile, Thomas Leonard pushed Cootehill four points clear 11 minutes from time.

Conor Hannaway and Joseph O’Connor replied with late points for Killeavy but the Cavan champions held on for a two-point victory.

Cootehill will face Fermanagh champions Erne Gaels in the Ulster JHC quarter-final on Saturday November fourth at 2pm. Venue TBC.
