Dean Clancy loses first Olympic bout on split decision

Clancy suffered defeat on a split decision at Paris.

Dean Clancy suffered defeat to Jordan’s Obada Alkasbeh in their 63.5kg bout at the Olympics.

The 23 year-old, who fights out of Sean McDermott BC in Manorhamilton, lost out on a split decision.

Clancy got off to a bad start. Al-Kasbeh dominated the first and second rounds winning 4-1 and 3-2 respectively.

Indeed a point deduction for the Jordanian was the break Clancy needed in the third round.

Clancy capitalised and won the third round 3-2 giving him a reasonable chance of victory.

However, it wasn’t to be. The split decision went against him.
