Derek Mackarel with Darren Curren on the notes claimed their first overall rally win yesterday with a start to finish victory at the Carrick-on-Suir Willie Loughman forestry Rally. The Ford Fiesta R5 crew had started at number 2 on the road and swiftly got into their groove as they recorded a fastest time on stage one, capitalising on a spin by Jordan and Paul Hone to take a lead that they held for the remainder of the event. Taking a controlled approach, the Monaghan driver had 20 seconds to spare over the championship leaders with Stephen Mc Cann and John Mc Cabe completing the top 3. Shane Mc Girr with Devner Rafferty on the notes was the best of the modifieds taking 7th overall in their unique Lada.
