Derry move top of Allianz League division one

Derry made it three wins from three cruising past Monaghan 3-17 to 0-13 at Celtic Park.

Shane McGuigan was on song early on for the Ulster champions as they opened up a 0-8 to 0-2 lead.

Monaghan seemed to have found their feet through points from Joel Wilson and Jack McCarron. However they were hit by a sucker-punched, Conor McCluskey goal in the 27th minute.

Derry led 1-9 to 0-6 at half-time after three Jack McCarron points gave the farney men hope.

The sides were toe-to-toe in the early stages of the second. However, Padraig McGrogan finished to the net in the 49th minute and the gap became too much.

Two McGuigan points (1f) made it a 10-point game ahead of Conor Doherty’s goal on the hour mark. Derry moving into a commanding 3-15 to 0-10 lead.

Indeed, Jack McCarron (0-2), Dessie Ward landed late scores for the Farney men. However, it was too little too late.

Derry running out 13 point winners, 3-17 to 0-13. The win see's Derry move top of Allianz League division one. While Monaghan face a relegation battle.
