The defending Ulster champions will compete in Division 3 of the league, but face Division 1 opposition in the championship

Following the provincial championship draws at the start of the week, Cavan will get their defence of the Ulster title underway with a trip to Healy park to face Tyrone. The winners of that encounter would then appear to be on the tougher side of the draw, as Down, Donegal or Derry will await them in the semi final. On the opposite Monaghan take on Fermanagh with Armagh up against Antrim, with the winners of those encounters set to meet in the last 4.

Monaghan, Tyrone, Donegal and Armagh will compete in division 1 of the Allianz football league, while Cavan who suffered relegation last year, will contest the Northern section of Division 3 along with Fermangh, Derry and Longford. Regular GAA correspondent with us here at Northern Sound Damien Donohoe, believes that could be a hinderance to Cavans championship preparations
