Cavan’s All-Ireland title hopes came to an end as Dublin cruised to a 1-24 to 12 points win at Croke Park.

The reigning champions were too strong for Cavan in the second-half having led 12 points to seven at the interval.

The game began at a blistering pace with six scores amassed inside the first seven minutes, leaving the teams were tied at three points each.

Martin Reilly opened Cavan’s account after just 18 seconds before James Smith and Thomas Galligan added a point each for the Breffni men.

Dublin then gained the upper hand and grabbed nine of the next 12 points to lead by double scores in the 35th minute.

Oisin Kiernan replied for Cavan leaving five points between the sides at the break.

Dessie Farrell’s side dominated the third quarter out-scoring their opponents five points to one.

Shortly after the restart, Brian Howard stretched Dublin’s lead to 12 points before the Ulster champions landed three scores in roughly as many minutes.

Martin Reilly, Oisin Kiernan and James Smith added a point each reducing the gap to nine points before Dublin responded in style.

The reigning champions hit 1-3 without reply with Robert McDaid finding the net with five minutes left as Brian Fenton, Dean Rock and Cormac Costelloe also kept the umpires busy.

Thomas Galligan was given his marching orders in the second minute of injury time after receiving two yellow cards but the game was dead and buried at this stage.
