Late penalty isn't enough to save Cavan

Fermanagh scored a one point victory over Cavan to advance to the Ulster minor football semi-final for 2021.

Fermanagh edged this contest with Cavan scoring a late penalty but it wasn’t enough as Fermanagh won out 1-12 to 1-11.

Daire Madden (0-2), Matthew Smith, Ryan Tobin, Darragh Lovett, Barry Donnelly all scored Cavan points. As Cavan led six points to one at the first water break.

However Cavan only managed one point before the break through Oliver McCrystal. Fermanagh had battled back with five points in a row as Cavan led seven points to six at the break.

Cian McGovern and Caoilte Farry exchanged points immediately after the break with Donnacha Morris making it a level game a minute later.

Cian O’Brien found a 33rd minute Fermanagh goal. Fermanagh led 1-8 to 0-8 and took a grip of the game.

Cavan’s next point would come 10 minute before the end through Daire Madden. Oliver McCrystal brought it back to a five point game, 10 points to 1-12 with three minutes remaining.

Darragh Lovett sent over another Cavan point two minutes into injury time and then converted a penalty three minutes later.

Alas it was too little too late as Cavan bowed out of the Ulster minor championship. Fermanagh setup a semi-final with Tyrone.
