Former NFL kicker Patrick Murray was one of the first to bring GAA skills to the game

Charlie Smyths recent form with the New Orleans Saints in the NFL and once again shone the spotlight on the Irish influx into the sport particularly those from a GAA background. Monaghan goalkeeper Rory Beggan was one of the first high profile GAA players to make the trip stateside in 2024, where his kicking impressed those within the sport. Another former kicker with very strong connections to Monaghan is Patrick Murray whos father Aidan hails from Clones with Patrick admitting himself that he is a regular visitor to the Farney county. Sean Mc Caffrey spoke to Patrick about his kicking career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints and how it could be tied back to kicking the ball in St Tiernachs Park
