Gowna set up semi-final with Crosserlough

Gowna advanced to a Cavan SFC semi-final meeting after a four point victory over Killygarry.

Gowna were in charge in this quarter-final replay, leading 1-7 to 0-5 at half-time before winning out 1-13 to 1-9.

Darragh McConnan opened the scoring seconds into the game for Gowna. A lighting fast start continued with Jack Mooney and Ross Sheridan putting Killygarry two points to one ahead after three minutes.

Darragh Lovett moved Killygarry two clear on six minutes. Gowna however closed the gap to one through Robbie Fitzpatrick and a Cian Madden free.

Conor Smith and Jack Mooney restored the Killygarry two point lead on 17 minutes. However, Killygarry didn’t register another score in the half.

Ryan Donohoue pulled it back to a one point game on 18 minutes.

Two minutes later and quick thinking saw Seanie Hartin raced into space and rattle the ball into the Killygarry net.

Conor Madden and a Cian Madden free saw Gowna lead 1-6 to 0-5. Killygarry keeper Paddy Galligan produced a huge save to deny Conor Casey a goal two minutes into injury time. The ball spilling over the bar.

Gowna led 1-7 to 0-5 at half-time.

Gowna picked up where they left off after the restart. Seanie Hartin making it a six point game. Darragh McConnan adding another score two minutes later.

Jack Mooney landed Killygarry's first score of the half on 35 minutes, but Gowna forced it further. Robbie Fitpatrick and Connor Madden making it 1-11 to 0-6.

However, Killygarry weren’t done. Darragh Kennedy and an Oisin Brady free making it a six point game. A minute into the final quarter, Killygarry were right back in it.

Martin Reilly the inspiration bursting through to set up Mattie McKenna who blasted the ball into the Gowna net. A three point game with 14 minutes to play.

Cian Madden calmed Gowna nerves with a point on 50 minutes. However, drama remained. Gowna were reduced to 14 when Ryan Donohoue recieved his second yellow card of the game eight minutes from time.

Chances were slim pickings, but Cian Keaney made it a three point game a minute into injury time.

Killygarry threw everything at it and came close to a goal three minutes into injury, but no one could convert it! From the restart, DJ Madden sent over a point to seal the win for Gowna

Conor Smith converted a free for Killygarry late on but it wasn’t enough. Gowna win out 1-13 to 1-9.

Gowna progress to the Cavan SFC semi-final where they will meet Crosserlough.
