Killarney and District Motorclub will play host to Round 1 of the championship

The opening round of the Irish forestry championship gets underway this weekend with the Killarney and District Motor club to host round 1 for the first time since 2007. Based in the Mount Eagle area outside of Castleisland, the full entry of crews will compete over 6 stages with the Junior 1000 competitors set to lead of a high quality field. Interestingly in that junior category, well know drivers Sam Moffett and Gary Kiernan will be swapping seats as they will be calling the notes for Tommy Moffett and Danny Brady respectively. The main field sees Cathan Mc Court and Liam Moynihan as the top seeds in their Ford Fiesta with Desi Henry and Paddy Robinson behind them also in a Ford Fiesta.

From a local perspective Brendan Comiskey is seeded at 6 in a Volkswagon Polo while Derek Mackarel with Eamonn Creedon on the notes are at 18 in the Mitsubishi Evo. David Condell with Monaghan navigator Paul Kelly are the top modified seeds in their Ford Escort
